Sumners West Harlow Urban Extension

JRUD is currently masterplanning an urban extension to Sumners, the western-most part of Harlow New Town. This part of Sir Frederick Gibberd's masterplan was never completed. The site lies in a conservation area adjacent to rural settlement in Epping Forest. In designing this project the practice has carried out detailed character studies and this is helping address issues of integration with the different morphologies of adjacent villages and the New Town. A complex landscape structure, the conservation constraints and the need to create a highly sustainable and energy efficient extension will result in new forms of development on this site.
